Publicada por vez primeira en 1013, esta novela \u00e9 a historia duns \u201cpioneiros\u201d na Nebraska de fins do XIX e comezos do XX, nun estado a\u00ednda \u201cnovo\u201d cheo de emigrantes suecos e noruegueses, checos e franceses, que loitan por amansar unha terra. Unha historia dunha familia que \u00e9 tam\u00e9n a historia dunha \u00e9poca e dun grupo social, do individual no colectivo. Entre a elex\u00eda e a pastoral, sen que falte unha tr\u00e1xica historia amorosa. E un final esperanzador, tan caracter\u00edstico da autora. <!--more-->A\u00ednda que admiradora de Flaubert e James, est\u00e1 m\u00e1is pr\u00f3xima a Turgu\u00e9nev pola sutileza no narrar, por esa uni\u00f3n entre o real e o ton l\u00edrico, de grande expresividade. <a href=\"http:\/\/cafebarbantia.barbantia.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/willa-cather.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"wp-image-2848 alignleft\" alt=\"willa cather\" src=\"http:\/\/cafebarbantia.barbantia.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/willa-cather.jpg\" width=\"178\" height=\"230\" \/><\/a>Aqu\u00ed, como en Austen, o c\u00f3mo \u00e9 tan importante como o qu\u00e9, sen por iso ser unha novela formalista.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">O amor \u00e1 terra, a independencia da muller, o interese polo multiculturalismo (iso si, sen pegadas dos \u201cind\u00edxenas\u201d), pero tam\u00e9n o so\u00f1o, frustrado, de ir al\u00e9n da terra. Alexandra \u00e9, pero s\u00f3 en parte, o prototipo dunha nova muller, posible mesmo no mundo rural. Vela\u00ed Willa Cather (1873-1947) no seu ambiente, ou doutras obras como <i>Mi Antonia (1918) <\/i>ou <i>Un dos nosos <\/i>(1922).
